Gut bacteria may be a possible cause of Parkinson’s disease

Researchers at the University of Helsinki have discovered a possible cause of Parkinson’s disease. The new discovery may hopefully make it easier to relieve symptoms and even slow the progression of the disease. The study investigated whether certain bacteria in the gut, called Desulfovibrio bacteria, may influence the development of Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s disease is […]
Maria: I am not my diagnosis – Parkinson’s before 40
“Parkinson’s? No, it is not that — you are far too young!” That is what I was told, at the age of 38, when I went to the healthcare centre about five years ago. I sought help because I felt shaky in a different way, a bit like when you are extremely hungry or completely […]

I used to have difficulty eating gluten because I was sensitive to it, but after starting the medication Madopar, I no longer have any problems. Is this common?

Parkinson’s affects the gastrointestinal tract in several ways; constipation, for example, is common. Perhaps this helps you not react as much to gluten in some way. /Dag Nyholm
Hello! I have read that the shingles vaccine protects against dementia. Could it be a good idea for someone with Parkinson’s to take the shingles vaccine in order to reduce the risk of dementia?
I wonder whether Sertraline can have a negative effect on my Parkinson’s. I am experiencing severe tremors during the introduction phase, which has been 4 weeks on 25 mg. I have also experienced anxiety when there has been a gap between doses.
Sertraline will probably not have a negative effect on your Parkinson’s, but tremors could be a side effect, especially if you have not had tremors before or if previous tremors have worsened. Worsening anxiety is a common side effect during approximately the first two weeks of treatment. After that, it usually passes, and the anxiety-relieving […]
Is stomach surgery allowed if you have Parkinson’s disease?
