All necessary operations are possible in Parkinson’s disease, and medication can be adjusted accordingly. “Stomach surgery” is a broad term and can refer to anything from surgery for a stomach ulcer, a so-called gastric sleeve procedure for weight reduction, gastric bypass, also for weight loss, to complete removal of the stomach, for example in cases of stomach cancer or pancreatic cancer.
If the question refers to a planned weight-loss procedure, this should also be discussed with the treating neurologist. Weight loss can be part of Parkinson’s disease after some time with the condition, which may mean that a weight-loss procedure is of limited value.
Medication can be adjusted as needed, using different formulations such as patches, subcutaneous injections or infusions if required for a period of time.
