It depends on your diagnosis. For essential tremor, Inderal (propranolol) is usually the first-line treatment, but there are several other medicines you can try. For Parkinson’s disease, L-dopa and/or a dopamine agonist should be tried first, but Inderal (propranolol) can sometimes also help with tremors, although there is a risk of a drop in blood pressure (in people with Parkinson’s). If you have tried ‘all’ the medicines at ‘sufficient’ doses, it may be appropriate to have DBS electrodes implanted.
