Hello! I’ve read that the shingles vaccine protects against dementia. As someone with Parkinson’s, would it be a good idea to have the shingles vaccine to reduce the risk of dementia?

There is a great deal of interest in this issue at the moment, but we do not yet know how the findings will stand up to future research, so for the time being we cannot recommend the shingles vaccine to prevent dementia in people with Parkinson’s; however, it may well be beneficial to avoid getting shingles. /Dag Nyholm
