This was an unexpected question, as Artane was withdrawn from the market in Sweden in 1979. The active ingredient is trihexyphenidyl, a so-called anticholinergic drug, but it is not considered one of the most effective treatments for Parkinson’s disease. However, it appears to be available in the US, so perhaps you were prescribed it under a special licence? A similar medicine is available in Sweden, Akineton, but it is very rarely used for Parkinson’s disease these days. ‘Standard’ Parkinson’s medicines are almost always more effective. /Dag Nyholm
